distant

I have encountered situations in my own life, where I have arrived at a mental crossroads unsure of whether I am heading into dangerous waters or a calm and peaceful destination.

The San Francisco Bay is renowned for its unpredictable fog that can envelop the area at any given moment. During my ferry ride to Alcatraz Island, I observed the fog rolling in from the distance, eventually shrouding the island entirely. The resulting scene was atmospheric, with Alcatraz emerging from the mist like a dream, albeit one with a nightmarish quality. The combination of the fog and the abandoned buildings on the island created an ominous and slightly sinister ambiance.

As I edited the image, I felt a sense of veiled threat emanating from it. The feeling of approaching something unknown and silent, with tension building in the background, was palpable. The distant light hinted at the possibility of habitation, but the question of safety loomed large. This is a situation that I have encountered repeatedly in my own life, where I have arrived at a mental crossroads unsure of whether I am heading into dangerous waters or a calm and peaceful destination. In such moments, it is crucial to trust ourselves and accept who we are. This self-trust and self-acceptance can guide us towards lights that will provide us with a safe harbor and help us build our lives on a solid foundation.

To enhance the wariness of the image, a series of paper-based textures were applied, merging with the fog and soft focus to create a painterly effect. The use of olive, moss, and khaki tones further intensified the ominous atmosphere. A yellow-tinted light was added in post-production to contrast against the dark threat of the image, but it also created its own sense of possibility and confusion over its implied intention.
