Threats
Threats
In View
An old steel watchtower rises over the edge of Alcatraz Island, its frame silent, its purpose long retired. Once used to scan for danger and escape, it now stands as a relic of vigilance and control.
In Reflection
The watchtower explores the stories we tell ourselves about the world. Stories shaped by fear, caution, and the belief that danger is always near. The media amplifies threats, shaping perception before we even step outside. Sometimes even friends and family add to this, becoming voices of warning instead of encouragement. The result is a mind trained to expect harm and overlook possibility.
But fear is not truth. It is only one perspective. When we shift our view, we begin to see more than risk. We see potential. We see opportunity. We remember that life is not only about avoiding what might go wrong, but about noticing what is already good.
In My Life
I know the weight of living as though danger is always close. This tower became a symbol of that mindset, a reminder of how exhausting it is to stand guard against threats that may never arrive. Photographing it helped me recognise that vigilance can be released, and that wonder often waits just beyond fear.
